Sirens

Everything has a first time. Especially here, in beautiful Baltimore.

My first time in the USA.

Admiring the full moon in a whole new continent.

Watching my first baseball game as part of orientation.

Met so many new people in a day during play fair.

Hearing police sirens, ambulances, fire engines at least once a day. That can be explained by either I'm living in front of an emergency room, or there are just so many emergencies in Baltimore.

Hearing a gun shot. At least that was what people said. Initially thought it's a car crashing into something. And watching five police cars chasing a suspect. And witnessing a police pulling out a gun to the suspect. Live. Out of my window.

Baltimore

Day 1

Luggage got delayed. Was at night when we reached. Met a very friendly Californian girl with her mom. Was really lucky to have her. Got all the help moving our suitcases up. Thanks for all the breakfast! Walked to a senior's apartment at 12 and got back safely.

Day 2

Went to Wal-mart. Did not get everything. Rushed back. Chatted and napped. Invited for free dinner.

Day 3

Went to the bank. Went to a mall again. Again, thanks to the kind people who helped us. Walked back. Listened to a talk about security. Went to a Malaysian senior's apartment for dinner. Felt so tired I feel like dropping to sleep on the spot. Went for the floor meeting.

Day4

By now the most hectic one. Went out late, grab a bite at the FFC. So many choices. Rushed to a talk, got lost, and ended up late. But no matter, they are trying to tell us to stay away from alcohols and I don't drink. Got to another floor meeting. Explored campus. Went for some more meetings. BBQ and met more people. Convocation!!! Playfair and met even more people whom I had forgotten half their names. Drop by at the pajama jam.

I realize that I have never paid for any meals since coming to Hopkins. Good sign.

Nostalgia

However loth I was for the happy moments in INTI to end, end it must, as there will be no start if not an end. Here I am, savoring the last few days of free Internet and freedom. The joys, sorrows, euphoria and despair, love and hatred, ups and downs, successes and failures, have added color to my life. It is a really meaningful stage of my life to be here.
From the fantastic orientation, frenzy of SATs, tests, exams, to some crazy times with friends, they feel like they have only happened yesterday. Time flies really like an arrow. It is just like some unobtainable dream of yesterday, here being presented in front of my eyes now. I do regretfully admit that there are still many unachieved goals, hope my mistakes would drive me to fulfill them later.

Friends, there are hardly any better words to describe you other than awesome. Being close to supportive and wonderful friends has been more than just pleasant. Having parted ways, there might be possibilities we may never meet again, but these beautiful memories I will treasure.

Roomie, a great companion.

Goodbye and good luck everyone.

Appreciating

Meru. I survived. Without any mood to compose, so there you go.

Yes, I believe everyone would agree that the camp was very successful in bringing out feelings, especially a sense of patriotism, anyone who felt it might agree with me that it is a strange, but strengthening feeling.

Struggled to talk in Malay, and other than a few glitches regarding girl and boyfriend, ithe camp was really nice.

The best part is none other than abseiling. The pure euphoria would get me through any day no matter what happened. Now I see why extreme sports are addictive. Definitely going to do some abseiling some other day.

Feeling sleepy now. To end this post, let us put in every strength in our soul and shout,

MERDEKA MALAYSIA!

WE SURVIVED THE CAMP!

Ambivalent

Absolutely love this song...

Hot N Cold- Kate Perry
You change your mind
Like a girl changes clothes
Yeah you, PMSLike a b****, I would know
And you over think, Always speak, Crypticly
I should know
That you're no good for me
Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
You don't really want to stay, no
But you don't really want to go-o
You're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down
We used to be
Just like twins
So in sync
The same energy
Now a dead battery
Used to laugh bout nothing
Now you're plain boring
I should know that
You're not gonna change
Someone call the doctor
Got a case of a love bi-polar
Stuck on a roller coaster
Can't get off this ride
You change your mind
Like a girl changes clothes

Scrabble

If not for Scrabble, I would be insane now.

Really. Scrabble offers peace of mind, a chance to stop thinking about other things and focus only on the board.

It lets me reminescence the sweet taste of victory, something that hardly comes by these days.

3 Bingoes in 4 sets: TOILETS, SUITORS, BREASTS.

I am happy.

Of insults and heartbreaks

I believe in what I see is true.

I am trying to convince myself that sometimes things happen because of ignorance. But ignorance is not bliss, I sincerely hope that my point was taken.

The world is in ever constant motion. I am glad that it made me realize my position in this world. Thanks to my loved ones.

Happy Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year means a lot.

It equals to...

...lights and colors.

...meeting with my favorite cousins.

...eat.

...and eat.

...meeting with a long lost friend.

...playing with my baby cousin. (Are you getting envious, Su Jia?)

...harvest.

...and most importantly, HAAGEN DAZS!!!

Dreary Friday

Watching the others go back to their respective hometowns sure makes a envious. I am thankful nontheless. I can go back to celebrate, I dont have horrible tests before chinese new year and I dont have severe bouts of homesickness *winks at jis*. Have nothing better to do, so I am going to post something random.

There are awesome activities here geared towards bringing out the chinese new year atmosphere. But I really don't feel the heat...yet. Just didn't have the eagerness or the anticipation. I am just thinking of the one and only week of no classes, tests beyond the week, and how I would waste the whole week.

By now, INTI should be a ghost town. Didn't have the mood to go out couple hunting, though its recommended at this kind of time. Am surely not looking forward to the journey tomorrow, guess traffic jams are a sure.

Apparently, this year of the ox is not a good one for my zodiac. I normally do not believe it, but imagine having someone predicting you are going to fail in a year you have put all your hopes in. Never mind the ranting, I'll still rejoice the coming of a new year. Perhaps I should pay a visit to Nan Tian Tong (whatever it is spelled like) and ask for some advice, since its a new year and the prediction is going to last for a few months.*winks at jis*

I double swear I will not let any test, lab report, or anything academic ruin my holiday. 'V'

And I renew my vow to explore Tambun Cave.

Good luck to all those still having to take SAT...

I hate lamps

The florescent lamps are causing us a great deal of trouble. We had two times of experience of light bulbs burning off. This time, we have starters burning.

I know I have already blogged on this, but the smell of burning plastic and metal is too much to bear. We have the door open, the fan on, and the air conditioner on and the room is still stinking.

I have noticed that the base of the second lamp is not that secure. I am now fearing for my life.

My room is SMOKING!!!!

After a peaceful wonderful nap on a pretty normal afternoon, Jyo and I had the shock of our lives. First, it was the smell of chemicals burning or some kind of poisonous gas. Then, to our surprise, we saw smoke coming out from the florescent lamp.

The security guard was not at all concerned, and she told us to report it to AO.

Night. Finally the maintenence person came. After changing the bulb of the wrong light, (my bad), I found out that the light was smoking again!!! Now I have to endure the horrible smell again!!! Apparently, the starter or some kind of metal was burnt, and it was really a sight to see smoke coming out from the base after the bulb was removed.

Quite an experience, if I dont die of gas poisoning first.

Physics

I love my Physics textbook. I had very very good reasons to do so.

1. Page 10, number 26. To the nearest order of magnitude, how many moles are in a large domestic cat? (OMG...I never knew cats have to do with Physics) Hint: Cats are sometimes known to kill a mole. (?????????????)

2. Page 10, number 27. On a spending spree in Malaysia, you buy an ox with a weigh of 28.9 piculs in the local unit of weighs (Hold on... who buys ox in Malaysia? Are our ox so famous?) When you arrange to ship the ox home to your astonished family, how many kilograms must you declare on the shipping manifest? (Oh God, I don't care how astonished the family will be, I am SHOCKED)

I have never enjoyed reading Physics questions so much. Thank you Jearl Walker from Cleveland State University. You have great potentials at motivating a student.

Euphoria

Done, it's all done. Just one more thing to go, and my months of suffering is going to end.

Not to forget to mention, first week in INTI is absolutely wonderful, except for the enrollment.

Curse

I never quite believed in curses, but this woman's story probably shows more than coincidence. Found it from Reader's Digest.

Kathleen (named after an aunt who died who died in a plane crash) and her brother Joe(named after a uncle killed in WW2) has the Kennedy curse.

When she was four years old, her grandparents were killed in a plane crash.

Her uncle, President Kenndey, was killed.

Another uncle, George Skakel and her dad's best friend killed in a plane crash (another plane crash? How many do they have?)

George's wife, killed when she choked on a piece of food. (How unfortunate)

Her father was killed when she was 16.

Her friend, was beaten and lay in a coma for 30 years until he died.

Another friend died in a drug overdose.

Her brother Michael died in a skiing accident.

Her cousin John, his wife, sister-in-law died in a plane crash. (Again?)

Maybe there are really things like fate. Is future in our hands?

2008...Ends with a bang

How I wish I could say that... Sadly, the only thing on my mind are regrets and hearbreaks on the last days of the year.

Fine, I am not going to sound so emo when this is a brand new year. This year isn't too bad afterall, I might feel satisfied when all this has passed. I did have plenty of new experiences, had some of my wishes came true, conjured up more wishes I have never dreamt about...

Enjoyed my friends' write up about the year. Glad to have INOPE.

To a certain degree, the year 2009 did start with a bang... launched 5 missiles... I'm coming to the end of the journey.

Hope to blessed by more luck in the new year.

Once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
